4 cups whole milk

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking until smooth.

  4. Add the chocolate chips and whisk until completely melted and smooth.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Notes

  • For a richer cocoa, replace 1 cup of milk with half-and-half.
  • Add ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract for a candy cane-inspired version.
  • Keep warm in a slow cooker for holiday parties.
  • For extra “North Pole” flair, top with red and green sprinkles and a mini candy cane.
