Ingredients

4 cups whole milk
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Whipped cream, for topping
1 cup mini marshmallows
Christmas sprinkles
Candy canes, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
- Slowly pour in the milk while whisking until smooth.
- Heat over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture is hot and steaming. Do not allow it to boil.
- Add the chocolate chips and whisk until completely melted and smooth.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot cocoa into four mugs.
- Top each mug with whipped cream and mini marshmallows.
- Sprinkle with festive Christmas sprinkles and add a candy cane garnish if desired.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- For a richer cocoa, replace 1 cup of milk with half-and-half.
- Add ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract for a candy cane-inspired version.
